Good morning friends! I hope you're well today. This week's CASE IT Wednesday is going to be another project out of the holiday catalog. I am really enjoying all the fabulous goodies in it! Are you? Do you have the catalog in your hands? If not, I can get one to you!
You definitely need one. It's fabulous!!!
I've got a deep growing love with that Brightly Gleeming Designer Series Paper. I dunno if you've noticed or not, but I LOVE IT!!! It's absolutely stunning! So, naturally I would choose a CASE that features it. hehe.
The Christmas Cracker on page 31 of the Holiday Catalog really just spoke to me. While I CAN wait til Christmas time........ Slow down their big fella, and wait your turn!.......... I love love love this holiday tradition!
A cracker is really simple to make and you can do them in pretty much any size you like (dependent on the types of goodies you plan to stuff inside). But, a cool thing about how THIS cracker is made has everything to do with the little end sections.
Ok,first things first, you'll need to start with a sheet of DSP measuring 7 1/2" x 10". Now, as I said, you can make it any size you want. The width (7 1/2") is evenly divided by the 4 sides, with a half inch strip leftover for gluing the box closed on the side. The length can literally be any length. I tried it with a 6" length, hoping to be able to make 2 per sheet of DSP, but it was very small. Still usable, but small. A few bite sized snickers might fit inside. lol.
Making the cracker 10" long gives you a nice sized box. You could just as easily left the length at 12". It doesn't matter.
For the cracker in the catalog, Stampin' Up! didn't tell us the original size of the paper, but they did say they scored at every 1 3/4" across. So that's where I came up with 7 1/2".
Now, the really cool part is how Stampin' Up got the ends to work. Enter....... the small ornament punch!
Just line up the paper with the center of the ornament and push it all the way into the punch and then squeeze. You'll be going through two layers of DSP because you'll be doing this on the fold line. Punch the same way all the way around both ends of the box.
Save the ornament punched pieces that come out though. I'll show ya what to do with them tomorrow! :-D
I ran a strip of tear n tape along that 1/2" edge of the paper and attached it to the other edge, closing the box in on the side.
The next thing you'll need to do is pop the box out into it's right shape and tie a piece of ribbon around one end (in the little gathered spot made by the punch).
You see where it's "thinner" than the rest of the box? That will collapse and close the box up. So tie it with a cute bow and it'll be fabulous!
To decorate the cracker, Stampin' Up! kept it cute and simple. Punch the big ornament out of a piece of that dsp. Punch the small ornament out of a piece of Copper Foil paper that has been embossed with the Hammered Metal folder (LOOOOOVE THAT FOLDER!!!). Then use a little punch to make a hole in the tops. These cuties will be our little tag!
The little green star in the middle of the ornament comes from the DSP. See it? Yep, you'll have to fussy cut it, but it's not bad. Little straight lines. No problem!
I used a Glue Dot to attach it to the ornament.
And there you have it! Super cute little tag for a Christmas Classic......... Cracker!
Friends, these little crackers are the PERFECT Holiday table place setting. They make fabulous stocking stuffers and are fun little party favors too! AND they're super simple and easy to make!
I hope you enjoyed today's project and I hope you make some yourself! They're a lot of fun!
