Kylie's International Blog Highlight May 2020

Hello, Hello my friends! Today's Make-It Monday is also going to be part of Kylie's International Blog Highlights for the month of May! YAY!

The theme for the Blog Highlight is "THANKS" and I can't think of a more deserving THANKS to be given, than to those who wear the face masks and scrubs at work.  Yes, I'm talking the medical professionals.  They are smack dab in the middle of all this Covid-19 business aren't they?  They're over worked, under paid, super stressed, and facing this thing head on.  Our HEROES!

So, my Thanks Card is with those individuals in mind.  I saw this tiny little facemask online and fell in love with it instantly! I knew I had to create a card with it and knew that I wanted to use it in the blog highlights as well.  It's absolutely PERFECT for a Thank You card for a doctor or nurse!

In this week's Make-It Monday video, I show how to create this adorable little face mask.  It goes PERFECTLY with Stampin' Up's new community service printable PDF too! The sentiments on the front and the inside were created from that printable.  I used the Stitched Rectangles dies to cut them out of the sheet and to create a nice little stitched border.

The measurements for the little face mask itself are:

Designer Series Paper measuring 2 1/8" x 2 3/4"

Score it on the FRONT short side @ 1/2", 1", & 1 1/2"
Score it on the BACK short side @ 5/8", 1 1/8", & 1 5/8"

You'll also need a long strip of 1/4" cardstock lined with Tear & Tape for the sides & inside "spine" and a long strip of 1/8" cardstock lined with Tear & Tape for the top and bottom

I kept the rest of the card fairly simple, as I didn't want to distract too much from the mask. It's just so cute!

Today belongs to YOU! International Blog Highlights

Hello there my friends! How are you today?  Thanks so much for stopping by! Today you get a double treat because it's Make-It Monday, AND I'm participating in Kylie's International Blog Highlights. :-D YAY for Two-fers!!!

For Kylie's Blog Highlights, I want to share this sweet country truck card.  I absolutely LOVE the sentiment in the "Ride With Me" stamp set:

                                       "Today belongs to you.... Ride with the windows open!"

Isn't it fantastic? What a wonderful and liberating statement!  It goes perfectly with that ol' pickup truck too, I think!

Now, I've already shared a fun project using the truck die set with this bundle, but today I'm gonna show you another fun way of using the stamp set.  We're going to do a paper pieced truck on our card!  Yes, that ol' truck has a lot of dimension, even though it's laying "flat" on a card!

I fussy cut the truck since the "flat" one doesn't have a die for it.  It's not hard to cut though. Really simple!  But I did use the dies on the fenders and tires though. The photo here shows what you'll need to make your truck "pop" off the card.  The little black circles were just punched using a standard handheld hold punch.

I also used the Light Balmy Blue Stampin' Blend Marker to give the window a bit of dimension.  It's amazing how just a tiny little brushstroke can really bring an image to life!

Isn't it fantastic?  I have loved this bundle from the first moment I laid eyes on it.  And this is just another reason why!  I really like how my little truck turned out. I hope you do too!

A Paper Pumpkin Alternative - Kylie's Blog Highlights

 

Thanks so much to everyone who voted for me in Kylie's International Blog Highlights!  My Notecard box earned a spot in the TOP TEN Winners Blog Hop! YAY!!

Since it's time for me to share some of this month's Paper Pumpkin alternatives, I thought I might share one that follows the "encouragement" theme of the International Highlights Blog Hop.

July's kit was extra special because it coordinated with THREE different product suites in the 2019 Annual Catalog.  This card leans toward the "Garden Lane" suite.   "You're The Best" is a fantastic sentiment of encouragement on this simple, but elegant card.  I used a piece of the Garden Lane Designer Series Paper, matted onto a piece of Gold Foil Cardstock.  Both pieces were cut out using the Stitched Rectangles Shaped Dies.  I love them!

Friendship Notecard Box - Kylie's International Blog Hop

Good morning to you, friends!  It's time for Make-It Monday! I'm super excited to share this week's project with you because it is FABULOUS!!  It's useful, creative, beautiful, and can be given as a wonderful gift! YAY, YAY, YAY, and YAYAYAYAYA! hehe.

I give you.......

The Friendship notecard box (with gift box)!!!

I had so much fun creating this box and I want to share it with you!  I think you'll enjoy it too!

I will warn you ahead of time, however, this box took 4 sheets of cardstock for the easel box itself and an additional sheet for the gift box.

That being said, let's do this! :-D

Piece #1: The drawer itself.  The photo shows the score and cut lines, as well as what the piece should look like.

Piece #2: The drawer sleeve. This is what the drawer will slide into when it's assembled.

Piece #3: The easel top.  The bigger part glues to the top of the drawer sleeve, while the two smaller sections create the easel.

Pieces #4&5: The bottom of the sleeve glues to one of these pieces for the base of the box.  The other piece is to glue onto the easel for the top of the box. 

Piece #6: That little strip is a 7/8" x 5 1/8" piece, that will cover the brad and reinforce the front of the drawer.

The DSP You'll need:
* (1) 7/8" x 5 1/8" for the drawer front
* (1) 3 1/2" x 5" for the drawer liner
* (2) 4 1/8" x 5 5/8" for the top of the box and the easel front
* Additional cardstock/DSP/embellishments to decorate your box the way you choose

First, assemble the drawer.

I used a brad for the drawer pull, but you could just as easily use a twine loop with a knot or whatever you want.

I used that little strip of cardstock to cover the ends of the brad. It just gives a nice clean look to the drawer.

Don't forget your drawer liner! :-D

Next, assemble the drawer sleeve. I "tucked" the little tab between the two side panels so that it would leave a smooth finish on the inside and keep my drawer from getting hung up.

Double check to make sure the drawer fits in the sleeve good.

Once you've confirmed your drawer works properly, you can finish it up.  One of the 4 3/8" x 5 7/8" panels is the base of our project.  So, apply glue to the bottom of the drawer sleeve and center it over that panel and adhere.

Then, adhere the easel panel to the top of the drawer sleeve.  The easel part should be to the back. Once you've got that attached, you can glue the other 4 3/8" x 5 7/8" panel to the top section (ONLY) of the easel panel.

There you have it!  Your box is made and you can begin decorating it however you like.  I enjoyed sponging all the edges of mine with Soft Suede to give it a more "VINTAGE" feel.  But you can make yours however you like.

The drawer holds 5 embellished notecards and envelopes without trouble.  Adding more might be a tight fit, but could be done if you tied a ribbon around the cards to hold them together.

I created a gift box to protect my beautiful notecard box too!  It's super simple and follows the standard "Simple Gift Box" rule.

I wanted the box to be only slightly bigger than my notecard box.
so my dimensions were 8 3/8" x 6 7/8", scored at 1 1/4" on all four sides.
