Goooooooood morning my crafty friends! How are you this fine Monday morning? It's the last Monday of the month, and so it is time for the Stampers Showcase Blog Hop! Yayayaya! Today is going to be a fun one because we're doing a "Free For All"! The Stampers Showcase Design Team were given free reign to do whatever project they'd like to do for you. Exciting, right? Let's get to it then!
For my project, I'm sharing a fun technique called "Faux Tile". One of my wonderful gals had brought some of her handmade cards to show and this technique was one that she used. I love this technique and though it's been around a while, we often forget about some "oldie but goodies". This one is definitely a goodie!
I'm using the Delicate Desert Product Suite for this card. I love the distinktive images and the southwestern style borders and dies. I chose a Pale Papaya card base (11" x 4 1/4", scored at 5 1/2") and layered a 5 1/4" x 4" piece of Calypso Coral on that. Before I attached the coral piece, I used one of the Stitched Rectangles Dies to cut the center section out (I was able to get the floral and sentiment backgrounds both from this one piece!). After I had the center removed, I embossed the remaining frame with the Quatrefoil Tile Embossing Folder. I love this touch of texture for the background. It's one of my favorite "moves" to help fill a space that might otherwise seem plain.
The Drybrushed Metallic paper included in this suite is absolutely STUNNING! I used one of the frame dies from the collection to cut this panel out.
Now for the fun and magic part! Do you see how the floral panel appears to be tiles assembled together to form the pattern? It's actually much more simple than that! The cardstock is a 3" x 2 1/4" panel that I've scored at every 3/8" mark on my scoreboard. I scored it all the way across, and then turned the paper and scored it across the other side making these "tiles". AFTER my paper was scored, I stamped it with Calypso Coral Ink and one of the fabulous distinktive flower stamps from the set. The scored lines don't catch the ink and thus give the look of a tile. Pretty neat huh?
Of course, there are tons of ways to incorporate this technique. Visit my Facebook Page "THE STAMPIN' CHIC DANA SULLIVAN" at 8pm est this evening and I'll be LIVE sharing this technique as well as some other samples I have made using it. You won't want to miss it!
By now you know what I'm gonna say: "No Naked Insides And No Naked Envelopes"!! Here's how I dressed them up. You can see the beautiful detail in that border stamp, right? So nice!
If you've tried this technique before, you know it's a fun one. If you haven't tried it before, I'd say now is as good a time as any to give it a go!
Be sure you check out what the other Stampers Showcase Designers have in store for you along our hop! Hop all the way around so you don't miss anything! Thanks tons for stopping by!! See ya!
