OSAT Blog Hop Purses Poppies and Paris

Good morning my friends! I have the privilege of being a stop on the One Stamp At A Time Blog Hop today! WOO HOO!  This month's theme is all about the BRAND NEW Spring Mini Catalog.  I'm really excited about this one because the 2020 Spring Mini has some of the most INCREDIBLE themed stamps I've ever seen! I just LOVE THEM!!

One of my FAVORITE stamp sets in the new catalog is the Painted Poppies set.  It has beautiful flowers, some leaves, watercolor background and speckled accent stamps.  Plus, the coordinating die set is exquisite!

I love that the bundle has TWO label dies and that beautiful little lacy trim piece too! SO CUTE!

My first project is a simple card using the smaller poppy image to create my own Designer Series Paper.  I really enjoy creating my own!

In this case, I stamped the poppy in Tuxedo Black ink and then stamped over select images with the watercolored background stamp using Poppy Parade.  Then, I used the larger label die and cut one from Blackberry Bliss Cardstock, and the other from Whisper White Cardstock.  The large label has a beautiful embossed line that goes around the inside edge, so I used that as a cutting guide to make the white layer.  I stamped and cut the poppy on the label using the coordinating image die.  I attached everything together using lots of layers and dimensionals to give the card some interest. Before I adhered the background layer to the card, I wrapped a length of the Poppies product suite White Crinkle Ribbon around the layer and tied a simple bow.  Easy and so cute!

My next project is a self closing gift package.  I've made these before, but it's really fun (super easy) and can be modified to fit any need!

I originally found Dawn Griffith's self closing box, but I modified the size just slightly because I wanted to get two of them per one sheet of cardstock. I will include the measurements here:

The base of the box is 8 1/2" x 5 1/2"

On the SHORT side, I scored at 1" and 5"

On the LONG side, I scored at 4" and 8"

I went back on the long side and from the edge to the 1" line, I scored at 2" and 6" (4" and 8"  were already there).

As you can see from the picture above, I trimmed away the small corner bits on the thin strip. I also mitered that strip. Then, I snipped up those 1" score lines.  That section forms the bottom 4 flaps of the box.

To get the "triangle" shapes, I used a ruler and my stylus and scored a diagonal line from the top corners, down to that side's middle cut line on the bottom.

Next, I cut 2 square pieces of Designer Series Paper measuring 3 3/4" x 3 3/4".

I semi folded each piece in half and made a tiny little crease mark at the bottom middle of each. This helps find center when you go to cut your DSP into triangles. Once you have the tiny little "tick" mark on the bottom middle of the DSP, line up that tick mark and the opposite corner (to form a triangle) on your trimmer, and cut that little triangle off. Do the same on the opposite corner.  You'll end up with three pieces for each DSP square (as shown in the photo above). These will fit perfectly on your box base.

**NOTE**  If you have directional paper, you'll want to make sure that your "tick" mark is at the bottom middle of your DSP square. This will ensure your paper is upright when it's all cut.

To assemble the box, simply add a layer of adhesive to the tab and attach to the other end of the box.  The bottom has 4 flaps like a standard cardboard box, so you'll assemble it the same way. Two opposing flaps in first and then the other two opposing flaps attach over top.

To embellish my box, I die cut that adorable swirly stitched label, and stamped/die cut two poppy flowers.  The sentiment comes from the coordinating Peaceful Moments Stamp set.  It's part of the Peaceful Poppies product suite.

I added a lot of dimension to this project as well.

The swirly label has dimensionals under it, then the big poppy is glued and dimension under the edge of it.

The little poppy is attached to the big poppy also with a Stampin' Dimensional.

Well, there you have it friends. I hope you've enjoyed my projects! As you can see, the Painted Poppies bundle is a lot of fun to play with!
